Grief is complicated and can feel impossible to put into words. Thankfully, lots of authors have managed it quite beautifully. Each month we pick a new book and talk about its themes so we can read, learn and heal together. The virtual gathering is a safe space to discuss and debate, moderated by Lauren Harris.
Our selections range from fiction and non-fiction, memoir and essay, uplifting and good for a cry—but they all have one theme in common: communicating the experience of missing a loved one.

Thank you to Reimagine for hosting a three-part series on Surviving a Sibling. I am honored to be included on the panel of part one on February 12th at 4 pm EST with an esteemed panel including Moira Khan, founder of Griefspan, Annie Sklaver, researcher and author or Always a Sibling: The Forgotten Mourner’s Guide to Grief, and moderator Nina Rodriguez, grief guide, founder and host of Grief and Light a podcast and online community of grievers.
The grief of surviving a sibling is often a silent one. Referred to as “forgotten mourners,” bereaved siblings are unable to fully express their grief when the focus shifts to parents or caregivers. They must navigate a complex emotional landscape with little acknowledgment or support. |

Keynote Speaker: JUDY LIPSON Topic: “It Is Never Too Late To Grieve.” During breakfast on Saturday, Judy will help us understand that no matter when you suffered a loss, there is no recipe or timeline for grief. She will urge us to give ourselves permission and compassion to take the journey no matter how long it takes. Judy is the sole survivor of three sisters, losing her sister Jane in 1981 at age twenty-two in an automobile accident, and nine years later her sister Margie at age thirty- five after a twenty-year battle with anorexia and bulimia. For thirty years Judy suppressed her grief but in 2011, she founded "Celebration of Sisters", an annual ice-skating fundraiser to commemorate the lives and memories of her |
beloved sisters to benefit Massachusetts General Hospital. Skating is a sport the Lipson sisters shared and her endeavors have brought Judy full circle back to her sisters.

The Gathering Conference is a three-day event with keynote speakers, workshops, meals, and memorial ceremonies designed to help bereaved parents and their families understand that they are not alone in their grief. Participants come away feeling refreshed and revitalized, better informed about the grieving process, more aware of hope and promise, and affirmed by meeting new friends who travel the same path. This year’s Gathering theme, Forever In My Heart, reminds us that the memories and love shared are eternal and that there is a way to continue forward with hope, strength, positivity, and love.

Our format will be a little different this year, with exhibitions from some of our Celebration of Sisters skater family, an open skate, and a book signing of my memoir, Celebration of Sisters: It Is Never Too Late To Grieve.
