Judy Lipson is the middle of three who sadly lost two sisters who were her constant, champions, and competitors. After suppressing the grief for thirty years, skating became the pivotal force bringing Judy full circle back her sisters in a sport the Lipson sisters shared and founded Celebration of Sisters, an annual ice-skating fundraiser to commemorate the lives and memories of her beloved sisters Margie and Jane to benefit Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA.
The journey transformed Judy from the shy, middle, introverted sister to perform on the ice, and share her story in speaking as the keynote for The Bereaved Parents USA National Conference, providing workshops at The Compassionate Friends National Conference, and contributing to The Open To Hope Foundation and Centering Corporation. Judy’s memoir, Celebration of Sisters: It Is Never Too Late To Grieve by WriteLife Publishing, 2021 Literary Titan Silver Award, written in the hopes of: “If, by hearing my story, another person who has lost a sibling does not feel so alone we’ve done good. If, by attending or hearing about the gala, a new skater stands up, we’ve done good. If an individual learns about advocating for healthcare, we’ve done good. If someone with an eating disorder or that person’s family member or friend seeks help, we’ve done good. If we have brought joy, we’ve done good.” |
